Do This When You are Feeling Negative

When I am feeling negative, pessimistic, and lacking motivation...

When I find myself complaining about problems more than focusing on solutions...

When I find myself chronically impatient and overwhelmed by what is ahead of me...

I know what is ultimately wrong.

This one thing is an evidence based truth from research, it is historically true when you look back on your life, and it is even Biblically true for those who are people of faith.

"Environment" is the number one predictor of a person's mental and emotional state.

And since the way you think and feel almost always dictates actions and results, that means that your environment is the #1 predictor of how successful, fulfilled, productive, joyful, and positive you are today and that you will be tomorrow.

I was talking with a high school athlete yesterday about this. He has been doing a noble thing -- he's been spending a lot of time with a very depressed friend of his. He is trying to encourage and bring him up.

However, he was wondering why he has been feeling "off" lately. It could be a number of things but the number one thing is his environment. In this particular case, I encouraged him to continue pouring into his friend right now.

However, I also encouraged him to double or triple down on improving his OWN environment so that HE has overflow.

If he doesn't have overflow, he cannot pour into his friend very well for long.

Are you following?

The point is, your current environment is shaping you more than anything else!

This is how you know if your environment needs to shift:

  1. You are complaining more than normal; you are just feeling negative and you don't like it
  2. You've been stuck, not progressing
  3. You are blaming, condemning, and criticizing others

Guess who has been there ^^ before?
