Physical strength, agility, speed, and skills are important, but those alone have never been quite enough to achieve peak confidence and lasting success.

#2 If you want to be a confident, successful student-athlete, you must redefine your Self-Worth.
Most high schoolers I talk to do not think good thoughts about themselves. They do not feel like they are worth much. They do not feel like they have much value, or much to give.
"I'm not as good as him or her. I don't deserve 1st team. I am not good enough. I am not strong/fast/skilled."
The main reason is because they base their self worth off of the opinions of other people, and their personal performance (school, grades, popularity, sports, etc.).
Self-Worth Definition of an UNconfident, UNsuccessful student-athlete
My Self-Worth= My Personal Performance (which is not going to be great all the time) + The Opinions and Approval of Other People (which we know people are fickle and we cannot depend on their opinions)
If you want to be a confident, successful student-athlete, change your definition of self-worth to things that are within your control.
Base your self-worth off of:
• Your effort to be the best you can be
◦ Practicing your sport with excellence
◦ Working your tail off in school
◦ Going out of your way to help your parents and siblings
• Your kindness and caring towards other people
• Helping other people succeed
All of those things are within your control. When you make those things part of your definition of your self-worth, you put yourself in the driver seat. Feels good to know you are in charge of your self-worth, doesn’t it?
Your Self-Worth, how you THINK about yourself, will dictate your success in sports, school, and life.
