Love-Powered Leadership Works Best

Why is Love-Powered Leadership the only kind that works 100% of the time? Because it is the only kind of leadership that puts what is in the best interest of the student-athlete first, no matter what. If kindness and patience are what that kid needs most from you, their leader, love will deliver that and yield the best result. If discipline and correction is what that person needs most from their leader, love will also deliver that, resulting in the greatest return. Love is not a fluffy feeling. It is putting the other’s interest above and before your own. It is the only kind of leadership that balances “authority, command, and control” with “humility, vulnerability, and influence”. It just

BLINK and sports are gone (Chapter 27 from The Youth Truth)

Chapter 27 from The Youth Truth Blink and Sports are GONE Make Your Mess Your Message So many kids struggle with identity and resilience through adversity because these two truths have not yet sunk in… Your mess becomes your message Your are more than an athlete Eight years ago I started working with a lacrosse player named Lara. She went on to play at a major D1 school. In early 2018 she learned her career was going to be cut short. She was forced to medically retire due to a long-term injury that finally took its toll on her. She was devastated. Lost. Confused and lacking clarity of purpose and direction. She had incredible, supportive parents, however she was still shook up and in need of

Discipline Your Nerves

Nerves. Have you ever seen your athlete fold under pressure? What about just seeing them perform less than their best because their nerves got to them? It’s not that your athlete was physically incapable. They were, however, mentally incapable. They couldn’t control their thoughts and therefore could not control their feelings, which lead to them not being able to control their actions and subsequent results. Here is a super quick and simple video I did to help your athlete Discipline Their Nerves so that they can perform at their actual potential. Discipline Your Nerves & Master Your Mind Gahhh it still drives me a little nuts knowing what I did not know as a high school athlete. How much

Chelsea's Why

Gifted with excellent flexibility and a mind for movement, Chelsea Dingee could have become a gymnast. But even at age five it was apparent that her heart really lay elsewhere. “I would take her to gymnastics class, and she would spend the entire time twirling across the gymnastics floor,” says Chelsea’s mother Kelly. “They said, ‘she's good at tumbling, but you should get her in dance.’” Today, Chelsea is a junior at Urbana High School and a competitive dancer with Dance Unlimited, in Frederick, mastering routines in styles as diverse as hip-hop, lyrical, tap and classical ballet. “It's just a really cool way to express myself and just get out all of my emotions in one place and a great pla

2020- Change Will Happen

Good morning! I really hope your holidays have been awesome. I took the last week off and ended up catching a BAD stomach virus, along with my wife, son, mother and father in law, brother-in law, cousins and aunt! But I am back now and I could not be more fired up and excited about a new decade. For me, 2020 is the year of The Youth Truth. It is the year of sharing the TRUTH about where things are at right now in youth sports. Where coaches stand and how effective and joyful (low joy = low effectiveness) they are in their coaching efforts. Where sports parents stand and how effective and supportive they are (without interfering). But ultimately, what is the current truth about the state of o

PFP Responsible for BURNOUT

This subject line of this email might make you scratch your head a bit...but there are 6 simple points you'll want to read at the end because it could mean the difference between your kid growing up with confidence, courage, and a successful mindset, or not. PFP was established in 2014 as a place that helped kids get bigger, stronger, and faster for sports. The “Youth Athlete Performance Enhancement” industry was founded in the 2000’s. It probably existed before, but it became popular in the 2000’s and has exploded since. Why? It’s obvious. How good at sports a 12 year old is defines his or her value. It defines their value in their friend group, their value on social media to a bunch of peo

Morning Coffee :)

A friend of mine shared this short story with me, I love the perspective it gives... You are holding a cup of coffee when someone comes along and bumps into you or shakes your arm, making you spill your coffee everywhere. Why did you spill the coffee? "Because someone bumped into me!!!" Wrong answer. You spilled the coffee because there was coffee in your cup. Had there been tea in the cup, you would have spilled tea. *Whatever is inside the cup is what will spill out.* Therefore, when life comes along and shakes you (which WILL happen), whatever is inside you will come out. It's easy to fake it, until you get rattled. *So we have to ask ourselves... “what's in my cup?"* Wh
